As the world slowly progresses in diversity and inclusiveness people still manage to find ways to discredit the magic....

What magic you speak of? #BlackGirlMagic of course!

Just recently, the new Afro-Latina artist, Amara La Negra, from "Love & Hip Hop Miami" was just attacked for her beautiful Fro and melanated skin. This displays one of the struggles many women of color face when breaking into a bias industry that only wants to promote one type of beauty, one type of woman, and one type of skin color, hair texture, and the list goes on.

Amara La Negra fully stated how proud she was to be Afro Latina and how she embraces her blackness and wants to be the standard for girls that look like her that aren't given a chance to shine. See it for yourself in the clip below!

I'd like to point out some PAUSE worthy moments from the clip below:

  • "You can't be elegant if you have a fro?"

  • The producer asks her, what does she mean by "Afro-Latina"..."are you African?"

For those that don't know the term, "Afro-Latina" refers to Latin American people of significant African ancestry. The term may also refer to historical or cultural elements in Latin America thought to have emanated from this community.

We NEED more diversity when it comes to black women in the media, Afro-Latinas included! We are not all the same and we are all beautiful and our strength and melanin shines through.

This is what #PRIMPLIFE is all about, promoting women and girls of color to inspire and motivate self-care and high self esteem. As long as we know we are beautiful we can and will make our presence known!

With that being said, congrats to "Amara La Negra" for landing a multi-album record deal with Fast Life Ent. Worldwide and BMG . Primping girls lives one Afro-Latina at a time!

What are your thoughts on the producer's comments? Will you support Amara la negra and other Afro-Latina artist on the rise? The change we seek starts with us! S/O to all my melanated beauties. Share your thoughts below!

Eres inteligente, eres hermosa y eres #blackgirlmagic.

Love,

Jasmine Jones
